How records are verified
Records are matched to official government sources and marked verified only when the source confirms them. Where authoritative sources disagree, the record is marked conflicting and flagged for review rather than silently resolved. Unverified records are excluded from search indexing and from this API.
| Status | Officials | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| verified | 108 | Confirmed against an official government source. |
| needs-review | 67 | Not yet confirmed; excluded from search indexing and this API. |
32 records currently flagged for human review.
Where the data comes from
Facts are sourced from official government data, preferring the body that publishes its own records. Where sources conflict, the higher authority tier wins and the disagreement is recorded rather than discarded.
Municipal staff directories (CivicPlus)
Tier 1 — the government body publishing its own recordsLong Island towns, villages and cities
Each municipality publishing its own officeholders through its CivicPlus staff directory. Per-department views only; hand-enumerated departments with the offices each holds; names read from anchor text, never URL slugs.

Known limitations
- Community-to-district relationships are derived from each community's Census interior point. A community can span more than one district, so an address lookup is authoritative where a community page is indicative.
- Nassau County publishes no official district boundary service, so Nassau county legislative districts cannot be resolved from an address here.
- Nassau County does not publish party affiliation for its legislators, so that field is unavailable rather than inferred.
- Town, city and village officeholders are not yet verified against a structured source and are excluded from this API until they are.
- County legislative election cycles are affected by New York's Even Year Election Law transition, so next-election dates are not asserted for those seats.
