Biography
Bruce Arthur Blakeman is the 10th Nassau County Executive, first elected in November 2021 and re-elected in 2025. A Republican, Blakeman defeated Democratic incumbent Laura Curran in 2021, becoming the county's first Jewish County Executive. He is an attorney admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the courts of New York and New Jersey, and multiple federal courts. Before becoming County Executive, Blakeman served on the Hempstead Town Board and as a Nassau County Legislator. He previously served as a commissioner on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from 2001 to 2004, appointed by Governor George Pataki. In his first term, he focused on public safety, tax stabilization, and economic development. He launched the county's first-ever County Drone Force for emergency response and led efforts to renovate Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Blakeman is a candidate in the 2026 New York gubernatorial race.
