Monica Martinez represents NY State Senate District 4 in the New York State Senate.
Biography
Senator Monica R. Martinez represents the 4th Senate District, covering parts of the Towns of Babylon and Islip in Suffolk County, including the communities of Brentwood, Central Islip, Bay Shore, Lindenhurst, and Amityville. She made history in 2018 as the first Salvadoran-American woman elected to the New York State Senate. Born in El Salvador, Martinez immigrated to the United States as a child. She is a graduate of Brentwood High School and has a background in community organizing. She has been a passionate advocate for immigrant communities, education funding, environmental protection, and affordable housing. She chairs multiple committees and has worked on legislation to combat gang violence and domestic violence in her district.
